Background

A national customer service company was ready to implement a new AI chatbot but was unhappy with the look and feel of the product. They stated the colors were dull, the typeface felt dated, and the layout was confusing. They needed someone to review the existing design and make UX improvements.

Overview

My role was to analyze the existing chatbot to identify areas for improvement and create high-fidelity mockups. My main stakeholders were a data scientist team and the business leadership.

Heuristic Evaluation

First I combed through the existing interface and made a detailed list of my plans for improvement. I also performed a deep dive into other chatbot platforms, then I reported my plan to the stakeholders in a detailed presentation. I aimed for a more emotionally appealing interface.

UI Design

My stakeholders stressed that the interface needed to be easy to use above all else. During the design process I continually asked myself "is this feature necessary?" and "what could I remove or add for clarity?" Then I tested the design with a small group to make further refinements.

Marketing

In addition to creating UI models I drafted several thumbnails to display on the Microsoft Store. These are small snapshots that entice potential customers to try the app.

Results

My designs were well-received, and the client expressed their strong satisfaction with the new design, stating "It is truly wonderful and aligns perfectly with my vision." Kiko is currently under development and is planned to launch in 2025.
